About the Item

Exquisite oil and acrylic painting by Paul Aho with signature painting style extending to back of canvas. Subject of this painting is a rare departure from his usual contemporary images. Paul Aho is an internationally recognized artist who resides in the Palm Beaches and has earned considerable respect for his service to the community and work as a painter and printmaker. He was the first recipient of the Palm Beach County Cultural Council’s Ubertalli Award for Artistic Achievement and is a two-time recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium’s Visual and Media Artists Fellowship. Aho graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida State University, Tallahassee, and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa. Recent exhibitions of his work include Inaugural 2008, Cuadro Gallery, Dubai, U.A.E.; Undertow: A Survey of South Florida Contemporary Art, Istanbul, Turkey; Legacy, Sioux City Art Center, Sioux City, Iowa; Art Futures, Gallery Center, Boca Raton, Florida; The Bridge Art Fair, Miami Beach, Florida, with Wright Gallery; New American Talent, Laguna Gloria Museum of Art, Austin, Texas; Select, Schmidt Center Gallery, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton; Norte Americanos, Arcaute Arte Contemporaneo, San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico; The Impossibility of..., Mark Shulgasser Photo Gallery, West Palm Beach; and Paul Aho and Immi Storrs, Clarke Galleries, Stowe, Vermont. This vivid Florida waterscape is the work of Highwayman George Buckner (1943-2002). It features an inflamed pink sky above which is reflected in the Indian river. A flock of egrets, a lone royal palm tree, a vivid stand of mangroves, and a cypress tree are draped in Spanish moss. The painting is acrylic on Masonite, and is set in the original homemade frame constructed of crown molding. Mr. Buckner grew up in Gifford, Florida. He was the eldest son of 12 children.
