A Rare diptych of "Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming" by Kathleen Petyarre
About the Item
A stunning and rather rare diptych aboriginal painting by Kathleen Petyarre that depicts one of her most iconic subject. Each painting is 44" x 44".
"Mountain Devil Lizard Arnkerrth Dreaming". The Arnkerrth is a small desert lizard that happens to be the artist's ancestor dreaming. The lizard crawls across the sand and leaves tracks which is reflected on her canvas, but these tracks further make up a dramatic aerial map of the artist's home campground. The sacred ground is completed with specific areas, trails and creeks but all set in a subtle motion and abstraction as if shifting in the wind of the desert.
Kathleen Petyarre
(Australian Aboriginal, c.1940-2018)
Birthplace: Spinifex country of Atnangker, Northern Territory
Language: Anmatyerr and English as a second language
Region: Utopia, Central Desert
Brief Biography:
During childhood Kathleen Petyarre traveled around her vast homelands of some 200 square kilometers (125 square miles) with her father, mother, siblings and extended family, according to the seasonal availability of bush foods and water. From this early age, Petyarre learned to understand land navigation and acquired the knowledge of the spatial history of her country. Kathleen Petyarre, her daughter Margaret, and her sisters later settled at Iylenty (Mosquito Bore) near Utopia Station and it was during this time that Kathleen Petyarre became one of the key women involved in the successful claim for the freehold title that lead to the 1979 formal hand-over of the Utopia lease back to its traditional custodians. Kathleen Petyarre, together with her brothers and sisters have custodial rights of the Arnkerrth Dreaming (Mountain Devil Lizard), together with Its associated narrative, which is referenced in all works of Kathleen Petyarre. Kathleen Petyarre's Dreamtime ancestor Arnkerrth, Moloch horridus is a small timid agamid lizard that inhabits the desert plains and sand ridges around Atnangker country, changing colour according to its environment, like true chameleon. In 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, Kathleen Petyarre was named as one of the 50 Australia's most collectable artists by the Australian Art Collector magazine.

Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Painting by Kudditji Kngwarreye
Located in Atlanta, GA
Entitled "My Country", this bold and abstract landscape painting was by renowned Australian aboriginal artist Kudditji Kngwarreye (1928-2017). Acrylic painting on canvas, it was painted in 2012 and signed and inscribed on verso. The saturated colors and the visible brush strokes and intentionally uneven earth-like textures invokes the view of a landscape, partially real, partially imaginary.
Kudditji Kngwarreye from the Utopia community in the Northern Territory. He was the skin brother of the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye and like his skin sister Emily, was one of the most prominent and successful artists in the history of contemporary indigenous Australian...

ANDREW MANDOLENE (b. 1960)
Andrew Mandolene is one of those rare talents, who hadn’t picked up a paint brush in 40 years since graduating from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. After a successful career as an Art Director, he determinedly took to the canvas in 2020 as though he had been painting for years developing a style that he felt certain defined him as a unique artist. Mandolene’s style of painting evolves from his sensibility of scale, form and color. The tension felt in his compositions combined with that strong color sense keeps him up at night with excitement. His creative space is shared in a Palm Springs warehouse with his other passion...classic car collecting...
