Tomas Lidén, Swedish artist "Skeppet utan namn" Mixed media oil on canvas, signed and dated 1997.
"A completely white canvas is never my starting point. There must be something to start from. A splash, a form that I might paint over but still must be the starting point .
Often, the many layers of paint that gives the image not only motives but also the structure and surface.
Ulcerated surfaces healed of swashes of color as one reviewer put it.
The pictures can be painted on different surfaces, the frames can be deliberately irregular. More
or less irritating asymmetric .
The motives are not in the real geography, it is more about states and feelings.
They have only indirectly inspiration in nature, they consist of a fragmented mix of all the landscapes"
