"...Dal 1947, sino al 1955, si sviluppa il periodo più fruttuoso di Sassu sia per la ceramica in generale che più particolarmente per la scultura. Egli si rivela un eccezionale lavoratore. Sono molte centinaia le opere decorative che dipinge per i forni di Mazzotti e sicuramente, in questo campo, porta avanti un deciso rinnovamento del gusto, sbrigliando il suo estro in fitte sequenze di immagini riprese dal proprio repertorio con sorprendente freschezza. Sassu ricorda d avere lavorato come un operaio, in quei mesi: ha dipinto piatti, vasi, piastrelle, servizi completi da cento o più pezzi. C’era in quegli anni ad Albisola una sola realtà viva ed ardente prima nel cuore che nella forma: il – gran fuoco – dell’arte, della poesia, tenuto acceso dall’estro e dall’umiltà, dalla fierezza e dalla coscienza di compiere il lavoro con la stessa abilità degli artigiani, e con la stessa serietà”.
