Antique Honor Target with Chamois and Eagle, Germany 1931

About the Item

Antique Honor Target with Chamois and Eagle, Germany 1931 An antique honorary shooting target. The wooden target is decorated with a colorful print depicting a chamois defending its fawn against an eagle. It features a handwritten inscription of the winner on the front and inscriptions of the other participants on the back. Shot in Germany in 1931. The target of honor or king's target is a traditional award in shooting competitions. The tradition is predominantly widespread in southern Germany, Austria and Lower Saxony. Honorary targets are donated and shot in honor of a personality, on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or a prize shooting competition. They were often artistically designed and hand-painted, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the advent of printing technology, targets were also created using artistic prints. artfour is an owner-managed trading company that sells Black Forest wood carvings, antler furniture and an impressive variety of unique decorative items.
