About the Item

Decorative wall panel by Newanderthal for Superego Editions. All made by hand as a sculpture in polyurethane painted with a special paint to obtain a resistant and soft effect like rubber. Unique pieces 2022. Newanderthal Collection Approximately 40,000 years ago: a group of Neanderthal men and women go about their daily activities. They prey on deers, boars and mammoths for food; they make tools from flint, bones and wood. They live in cold barren caves and their days are all the same. On a day that seems like any other day, the men are getting ready to go hunting and the women are attending to their babies and preparing animal skins. All of a sudden, the sky turns a ghastly color. Everything becomes dark. The cave people have no idea of what is going on. They’re terrified. Everything looks gloomy. In a flash, the black sky is infused with an intense kaleidoscopic light that illuminates everything. And then there’s a loud thump. A fucsia meteorite has rocketed down from the sky, producing an enormous impact crater. The cave people cannot believe their eyes; they’re petrified. Only the youngest man in the tribe and his girl, though startled, dare to approach the crater, while the others run away. The adventurous couple goes down the crater to check out this huge, bizarre and colorful rock that blinds them with its light. They reach the meteorite and start touching and sniffing it out, suspiciously. As they try to figure out what happened, the meteorite seems to come to life: it opens a time portal and the two are plunged into the present. Specifically in Milan, and precisely in the subway, at rush hour. They’re terrified and have no idea of what is going on around them. They see these strange people clad in strange colorful hides moving around hurriedly, in hectic sync with each other. The couple follows the crowd outside the subway. They come to a group of people gathered at the entrance of a large building. Filled with curiosity, the two get closer. The small crowd stares at them but in a sort of intrigued way. They think they are part of some bizarre performance! Our friends enter the big building. It’s the Design Museum. “What’s going on?” — they wonder — “Where are we?”. Everything is so weird and incredibly amusing at the same time. They look around. “What in the world are those mysterious utensils?”. They start sniffing and touching everything: chairs, sofas, lamps and tables, whatever they see. What’s the use of that strange object with 4 legs and a backrest? What are the tables and desks for? You can lie down on them! And the lights? They are fascinated and amazed by all they see. Then, at one point they see that blinding fucsia light again. They are drawn to it. They can’t resist it, they have to follow it. They enter a room with the Ultrafragola mirror, designed by Ettore Sottsass, on the wall. The pink light radiates from there. Our primitive friends get closer to the light and, once again, they are swept away into a time portal taking them back to the Paleolithic Era, inside their cold, plain cave. But their unexpected journey into the future seems to have awakened their minds: as if something had clicked, ideas start flowing in. They can use their rudimentary tools to work the hyper colorful meteorite fragments and make their shelter cozier. They take their chisels, hammers and sharp points and start building chairs, desks and sofas. And that’s how the Newanderthal Collection was born.

Alessandro Guerriero Painting for Alchimia
By Alessandro Guerriero
Located in Milan, Italy
Acrylic painting on canvas by Alessandro Guerriero for Alchimia in 2019. Signed and original label. Biography: In 1976 Alessandro and Adriana Guerriero established Alchimia, the first example of manufacturing designers in Milan. In 1978 and 1979 they presented the Bau haus and Bau haus II collections. Lamps, armchairs, chairs, tables, cabinets, and so on. Artists involved: Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass, Bruno and Giorgio Gregori, Michele De Lucchi, Andrea Branzi, UFO, Paola Navone, Daniela Puppa, Franco Raggi. The prevalent decorative material is laminated plastic. Alchimia’s culture, which is against the Italian design (Casabella magazine) changes the base of all previous design theories, resulting in a profound and radical change in the mindset of architects. Visual Alphabets, Redesign, Trivial Design, Cosmetics and Sentimental Robot are the slogans underlying the exuberant and vast production of Alchimia city. In the theoretical manifesto of the group, Alessandro Mendini writes “Alchimia is not interested in disciplines because they are considered to be within their rules. Indeed, it is important to look into the existing large free spaces between them. Alchimia weighs the assumption that conception and confused production methods should coexist where craftsmanship, manufacturing, information technology, techniques and current and obsolete materials can get mixed up. “They are handcrafted objects, recycled, mass, improbable, provocative, Kitsch, all very theory-laden. It operates and experiences in many sectors: the Pensione Ideale (Franco Raggi), the Copertine di Domus (Occhiomagico), the Abito Sonoro and the performance of Persone Dipinte (Anna Gili), the Stilismo della Moda (Cinzia Ruggeri...
