Beautiful Art Déco lacquered wood panel decorated with exotic fish, in red and gold on a brown speckled background by Louis Midavaine ( 1888-1978), France 1920s. Louis Midavaine was a famous French accessoires and furniture designer. He was born in Roubaix. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Roubaix. Midavaine designed numerous lacquer pieces that were principally in the form of animals. He participated in the decoration of ocean liners, including the "Normandie". Louis Midavaine was an important Representative of french Art Déco lacquer art. He was famous for his screens. This rare elegant lacquer painting with exotic fish and underwater plants is extremely decorative and has a beautiful color scheme. The painting has one or two very small, barely visible traces of use in the lacquer. It comes directly from Paris
