About the Item
Part of Marcin Rusak’s signature Flora collection, the wall-hanging Flora Lens 65 constitutes a unique decorative piece that works well in a variety of settings. Based on discarded flowers carefully submerged in resin, this convex piece is entirely handmade in a labour-intensive process, in which everything, from collecting and processing the flowers to encapsulating them in cast resin, and to setting the material on an aluminium wall hanging system, is done by hand. The piece is thus entirely unique and customisable in a variety of sizes, colours and finishes, from matte (satin) to polished (glossy), and from black to milky white, to various shades of honey, amber, rust and green, as well as fully transparent. Each piece is composed almost like a painting, with the artist selecting the botanical matter based on its sculptural qualities and unique colours.
The convex relief form of Flora Lens 65 acquires a particular depth, with flowers floating just underneath the shiny surface creating a more spatial, three-dimensional and complex composition. A resemblance to traditional Flemish still lifes is intentional and almost unavoidable. The artist makes several compositions, and only when the effect is satisfactory does he translate it into the material.
The piece is customisable in terms of dimensions and finishes. Available floral compositions include Baroque, Tropical, and Vernacular.
The piece is shipped in a custom airfreight wooden fumigated crate.

Marcin Rusak
Marcin Rusak was born in 1987, Warsaw, Polan). Rusak is an artist and multidisciplinary designer interested in ideas of value, ephemerality and aesthetics. Specializing in storytelling, process and material investigation his work often incorporates research, object and installation as well as visual creations to explore overlooked details of our lives, which recreated and re-imagined are shown again in a different light. As the son and grandson of flower growers, he has long been fascinated by these natural sources of inspiration and decoration. Engaging them in his creative process began by reusing waste to investigate new decorative elements within everyday objects and led to a rich body of work ranging from research and storytelling to cultural criticism around consumption and future scenarios.
Made with real flowers and resin, the Flora Lens 65 is customisable in terms of dimensions and finishes. The maximum diameter of a Flora Lens is 80 cm. You can choose from a variety of resin colours, including Black, Misty White, Rust, Brunswick Green, Amber, and Clear, in polished and matte finish. The lead time for a new commission is 12-18 weeks.

In the present work small handcut tiles of pure white Carrara marble are the background of this interesting contemporary mosaic which represents one of the most celebrated landmark in Florence.
The facade of the church of Santo Spirito (Holy Spirit), designed and built by Brunelleschi, is created with precious beige-colored Botticino marble tiles and surrounded by a frame of small black glass glazed paste tiles.
Carrara and Botticino are among the most famous Tuscan marbles that’s why the local mosaic artist and craftswoman- who creates this superb work of art- decided that the mosaic featuring the most important symbol of Florence should be made of these materials.
To make the composition more interesting, two different types of Carrara marble were used: the statuary white marble is matte and the white Carrara marble called "zuccherino" (sugary) is more sparkling. The random alternation of these two marbles give a pleasant vivid and three-dimensional effect to the entire mosaic tile.
Each small rectangular and squared tesserae are hand cutted and each one of these mosaic is one of a kind. The mosaic plaque has a wood panel as support and the tile is housed in hand painted giltwood frame.
The tile on sale and immediately available now is 15x15 cm and reproduces the church of Santo Spirito (Holy Spirit)- as you can see in the main image- but many other mosaic with the most important symbols and monuments of Florence are available as the Old Bridge, Santa Maria Novella, Florence's Cathedral with the Brunelleschi's dome or the Lily symbol of the city and so on, as showed in the photos.
