About the Item

Sculpture by Alicia Penalba, bas relief in metal alloy, signed Alicia Penalba, dedicated from the back, dim: 60 x 60 cm. Penalba arrived in Paris in 1948, with a scholarship from the French government and was awarded the engraving medal for foreign students in 1949. She devotes herself exclusively to sculpture. Born to Spanish parents in 1913 in Argentina, she expressed an inclination towards drawing and painting at a very young age. Alicia Penalba created a tremendous body of work for over thirty years and was recognized for her unique style by critics and a wide range of public throughout the world. She lived and worked alternating between Paris and Pietrasanta, Italy. Most of her work was made in bronze and ranges from small items to huge pieces of art over twenty feet high. Center Georges Pompidou purchased one copy of this sculpture in 1979.
