About the Item

Textile Art, Hand-crafted, Knit and Crochet Art Blanket, Knitted Tapestry, Wall hanging. A pair of non-identical multicoloured Psychedelic eyes, the owner has the freedom to display in whichever way they wish to create their own character on their wall or furniture. Embracing the human instincts that attract us to facial features and bright colours, these pieces have been created within a series of knitted eyes, mouths and faces. Adding eyes is the most direct way to give instant personality to any inanimate object; "Sunset Eyes" is heavily inspired by 1960s toys, cartoons and psychedelic graphics: friendly, nostalgic, but a bit spaced-out. The large scale of this piece means that a building, room or piece of furniture can be transformed into a character, like a giant cuddly version of Mr Potato Head. Knitted and crocheted pieces are individually created and connected in an intricate and time-consuming patchwork/ collage process. Each Blanket is a one-off piece, vibrantly coloured, highly tactile and soft to the touch. The pair can be displayed together on a wall or as throw blankets. Luxurious blends of predominantly wool yarns are hand-worked with accents of speciality yarns, mohair and super-synthetics. This piece was shown part of "Phantasm" at Lassco in London in Sept 2019 as well as in Los Angeles, part of our show with "Emma Scully Gallery" in July 2020. Sold as a pair (displayed measurements are for one eye only, price displayed is for the pair). Paris Essex work is hand-crafted by two textile artists, in East London. Recent work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, London , Margate, Barcelona, Lithuania and China, Milan and Paris. Paris Essex is a partnership between Essex girl, Carolyn Clewer and Parisienne, Tiphaine de Lussy. Creative collaboration between the two knit and textiles specialists began decades ago at the Royal College of Art, London, UK. They work in a space where distinctions between craft, design, fine art and low culture are blurred and of equal worth.
