Fine Large Late 18th Century or Early 19th Century French Academic Drawing

About the Item

This fine drawing while unsigned is an excellent example of sketch work done in sanguine as preparatory work for large finished paintings. Created in France during the days of artist such as David the command of the medium show the hand of a master. Soft delicate shading and a deft turn of the medium are true and could only have been done by an academically trained artist from the Parisian school fully versed in Classical inspiration and well-loved in fine and decorative arts circles from the 1780s-1820. The framing is of very good quality as well as the fine French matting all add to the works decorative appeal.
