About the Item

Artist: Susan Fenton (1949-2018; American) Title: Plumed helmet back and figure with pleated mask. Japan series Year of Creation: 1996 Edition: Unique pieces Medium: Toned Gelatin Silver Print; hand painted with Oils Image size: 24"x24" Framed size: 40"x42". Signed and titled verso as shown. Originally purchased in Olga Dollar Gallery in San Francisco Susan Fenton is an American photographer and a faculty member of St. Joseph’s University faculty. Fenton's work has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums. The captivating Japan series was made in 1990s after her return from living in Japan. The mysterious series showing figures in geometrical hats was enhanced by oil pigments to create a classical painterly quality that could not be achieved with camera only otherwise. “Fenton’s figures – silent, composed, aloof – represent aesthetic idealism,” Inquirer art critic Edward J. Sozanski wrote, “By avoiding eye contact with the viewer, they maintain emotional distance and anonymity. While being gazed at, they do not gaze back.”

Pascal and Vastian Framed Photography, 2015

In the tapestry of Pascal and Vastian's artistry, behold a photograph that whispers the poignant tale of a sculpted hand, adorned in hues that dance with both resilience and fragility. A fractured finger, a silent echo of time's tender touch, rests as a testament to the delicate dance between strength and vulnerability. Colors, vivid and alive, cascade like a lyrical melody, painting emotions on the canvas of the sculpted palm. In this fractured fragment, a narrative unfolds—a story untold, a chapter suspended in the eternal dance of creation and decay. The play of light caresses the sculpted contours, revealing not just the form, but the essence of the captured moment. It is a photograph that transcends the tangible, inviting the observer to feel the pulse of emotion that courses through the veins of the broken...
