1971 The Fight - Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier Original Vintage Poster
About the Item
With fantastic artwork by the great Swiss graphic designer and poster artist Celestino Piatti, this brilliant poster was created to promote "The Fight" or "The Fight of the Century" between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. The fight is regarded as the biggest boxing match of all time and one of the largest sporting events ever. Frazier won by unanimous decision, with Ali suffering his first defeat ever. This would begin the all time great trilogy of fights with Ali coming out on top in the following two.
This wonderful poster promotes a screening of the fight on big screen with "closed circuit TV classic direct from ringside" in Harlem, New York, not far from the fights location at Maddison Square Garden.

Celestino Piatti
Celestino Piatti was a Swiss graphic artist, painter and designer. In 1961, Piatti became the designer for the newly founded DTV Munich, designing almost all of DTV's publications, a total of more than 6,300 titles. In addition to posters and books, his works also included stamps for the Swiss post office, lithographs, woodcuts and linocuts, stained glass, murals and other paintings, ceramics and sculptures. A motif that runs through his entire work, is the owl, as a messenger of good luck or misfortune, or as a symbol of wisdom.
