About the Item
Original Swedish film poster from the first release of the film in Sweden in 1935 Less than five known surviving examples. This film starred James Cagney, Dick Powell and Olivia de Havilland. The film was directed by William Dieterle and Max Reinhardt.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play about magic, and Swedish artist Moje Aslund's poster shares the heady, dream-like quality of Max Reinhardt's adaptation. The poster also has an element of fun and frivolity, though the film is more beautiful than funny. Shakespeare's original is at heart a comedy.
This poster is unfolded linen backed and in excellent condition, with the colour remaining very bright.
