Original antique political election propaganda poster - Tariff Reform This Time - featuring an illustration on the Thames Embankment showing John Bull wearing a top hat and tails and shaking hands with a worker carrying a bag full of handyman tools over his shoulder, pointing towards Big Ben with Tariff Reform written around the clock face instead of numbers, a factory next to the clock bearing a large sign on the building reading These Works Will Shortly Be Re-Opened above the text in quotes below - John Bull: Look at the clock, my boy! A satirical character that was first used in 1712, John Bull is a personification of the British public. Formed in 1903 as a protectionist pressure group, the Tariff Reform League TRL was a well funded group popular with the Conservative Party in its protest against what they saw as unfair foreign imports and their support of Imperial Preference to protect British industry from foreign competition. Printed by Hill, Siffke & Co, Grafton Works, London. Published by The Tariff Reform League. Fair condition, staining, creasing, foxing, minor tears, restored tears.

A superb example of a Eureka wall clock made c1911. The electromagnetic movement is regulated by a large, slowly oscillating bi-metallic balance wheel, with the correct battery these clock will run for the duration of the battery life. Housed in a mahogany dial clock case with turned dial frame and brass bezel, the movement is visible through a cut out in the dial so the oscillation can be seen. The movement is numbered 5676 and stamped with the patent no 14614/1906 Made in England. The dial retains its original painted finish (cracked in places).
