About the Item
Original antique railway travel poster by the French poster artist Roger Soubie (1898-1984) for the Orleans and Midi Railways Luchon Queen of the Pyrenees / Chemins de Fer d'Orleans et du Midi Luchon 629m d'altitude Reine des Pyrenees. Colourful scenic view depicting a couple riding horses on a hill framed by trees in the foreground, the town nestled below in a mountain valley with peaks in the distance, three smaller images below showing the Hotel de Superbagneres 1800m in the centre, people walking along a street and people outside a grand old building on each side of the bold stylised title text. The historic spa resort town of Luchon is located in the Occitanie region of southwest France; the Chemin de Fer de Paris a Orleans and the Chemins de Fer du Midi / PO-Midi railway was formed in 1934 and became part of SNCF in 1937; the hotel was opened in 1922 linked by a rack railway and road from Luchon, built for the growing popularity of winter sports and skiing tourism.
