Original antique World War One poster - Chambas bombing the Goeben / Ο ΧΑΜΠΑΣ ΒΟΜΒΑΡΔΙΖΩΝ ΤΟ ΓΚΑΙΜΠΕΝ - featuring an aerial view of a Hellenic Naval Air Service / Ναυτική Αεροπορική Υπηρεσία bomber biplane dropping bombs on the warship SMS Goeben with black smoke rising from a direct hit and the water splashing around the ship caused by underwater mines and more hits, two more seaplanes in the background flying over the surrounding area of the Dardenelles as a map marking the place names including Canakkale (in modern-day Turkey), and showing the hills and historic fort villages on the Strait of Gallipoli with a photograph of a Greek naval officer below (most likely the aviator Lieutenant Commander Spyros Hampas who was killed in action when he was shot down by the German Emil Meinecke during a dogfight at Nara Burnu / Nagara Point in a British Sopwith floatplane during this air raid on the Goeben), on ribbons and a commemorative laurel branch, the text on the blue ribbons read - Fallen on 7 January 1918 Honour and Glory (this Julian calendar date is 20 January 1918 using the Gregorian calendar). Launched in 1911 by the Imperial German Navy, the SMS Goeben was a Moltke class battlecruiser transferred to the Ottoman Empire in 1914; she became the flagship of the Ottoman Navy as Yavuz Sultan Selim (renamed officially as the TGC Yavuz in 1936); she was decommissioned in 1950 and scrapped in 1973. Issued by the Patriotic Union following the Allied victory at the Battle of Imbros on 20 January 1918 fought between the Greek and British Royal Navy forces against the Turkish and German Empire forces. Good condition, creasing, repaired tears, staining, small paper losses, backed on cloth.

A particularly unusual style of aeroplane identification poster, owing to the very arty images. Most such posters rely on very plain silhouettes; this series - and we have many in this series - takes a much more arty approach to the task with shading and an interesting angle view.
The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, meaning "stork", was a small German liaison aircraft built by Fieseler before and during World War II. It was notable for its excellent short-takeoff-and-landing performance and low stall speed of 31 mph.
The Storch was deployed in all European and North African theaters of World War II. In addition to its liaison function, a number were used to fly a battalion of Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland behind enemy lines during the invasion of Belgium.
