About the Item
This striking poster was created in 1968 by students at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) as part of a larger series of anti-war works produced during the height of the Vietnam War. Many of these posters were made possible through donated supplies from community members and supporters who opposed the conflict. The design uses biting satire to suggest that peace itself threatens those who profit from war—namely generals, military leaders, and the broader war industry, humorously reduced to “killing things.” Bold in its message, the work embodies the spirit of student activism of the late 1960s. Widely circulated on college campuses and displayed in public spaces, it remains a powerful artifact of protest and cultural resistance.
