About the Item

Presented is an original autographed poster from a 1973 issue of National Geographic magazine, celebrating the historic Apollo missions from the first Apollo test crew through Apollo 17. Titled "Teammates in mankind's greatest adventure," the poster is a composite of Apollo astronauts, standing on the surface of the moon, with a waving American flag. The poster is signed in ballpoint by Gene Cernan, Dave Scott, Ron Evans, and Tom Stafford. The poster features a small article, as well as a list of the crew members of the Apollo Test Crew, Apollo 7, Apollo 8, Apollo 9, Apollo 10, Apollo 11, Apollo 12, Apollo 13, Apollo 14, Apollo 15, Apollo 16, and Apollo 17. The crews were listed in the order of the Mission's commander, command module pilot, and lunar module pilot. The poster also briefly describes each Apollo Mission. A key at bottom center identifies every astronaut in the composite image above. A shared dream of reaching the Moon united the Apollo astronauts in a team effort without human parallel. The astronauts illustrated in the poster also represent the contributions of tens of thousands of NASA scientists and engineers, designers, contractors, and workmen who shared in the projects’ successes. This poster was published as a supplement to National Geographic, in the September 1973 issue, page 289A, Vol 144. No 3. Copyright for the poster was issued in 1973 to the National Geographic Society, Washington D.C. The artist responsible for the composite was Pierre Mion. CONDITION: This two-sided poster is in very good condition with no marks or tears. Color is strong. Intersecting fold lines present, as issued. Full margins, with publication and copyright lines intact. The poster is signed in ballpoint by Gene Cernan, Dave Scott, Ron Evans, and Tom Stafford. The verso has a print of “Earth from Space.” Poster measures 22 ¼” H x 34” W. The poster is framed in a custom built wooden black and gold frame. Framed Dimensions: 29 3/4" H x 41 1/4" W x 1 1/8" D.
