About the Item

One of the finest film posters to be produced in recent years, street artist Shepard Fairey's dazzling design for the teaser Campaign of 2005 Johnny Cash biopic ''Walk The Line'' is a triumph, depicting Joaquin Phoenix as the rebellious country music legend in dark silhouette against a fiery background, paying homage to hit song Ring of Fire. At its heart a love story between Cash and fellow country music star June Carter, played by Reese Witherspoon, the film is a rollercoaster ride from traumatic childhood to country music stardom, through descent into addiction until Cash is saved from self-destruction by long-term love June. With remarkable performances from Phoenix and Witherspoon, both of whom performed their own vocals, the film was nominated for five Oscars at the 78th Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Actress for Witherspoon, which she won. There are two versions of the style A teaser one-sheet, with November in either a lighter or darker colour - this is the light November version. Please note that this is a movie poster printed in an unsigned, open edition for distribution to movie theatres, not a limited edition fine art print. Condition: Unfolded, not backed. Minor nicks and creases to upper right edge and lower left edge. A few minor handling dents to edges. Image and colours excellent.

'Mad Max' Original Vintage Movie Poster by Tom Beauvais, Belgian, 1982
By Tom Beauvais
Located in Devon, GB
Making a bold visual statement with a clean and straightforward design, this small-format poster for the first Belgian release of George Miller's groundbreaking 1979 pre-apocalyptic action thriller 'Mad Max' utilises the same superb Tom Beauvais artwork created for the British campaign posters, which draws us in as we look down the twin-barrels of a shotgun. As noted by Sim Brannaghan in his 2006 book on 'British Film Posters,' the Beauvais design strips "the film down to its basic elements of cop, the car & the road". Set in a bleak dystopian near-future Australia veering towards societal collapse due to critical petrol shortages, the influential film starred a little-known Mel Gibson in the titular role as a police officer turned vigilante when his family are murdered by a sadistic biker gang. Essentially a revenge western meets apocalyptic road movie, the film's sparse dialogue made way for a kinetic combination of visceral action sequences, chaotic car chases and an other-worldly visual style, hinting at the barren wastelands we would see in later films. Shot on a shoestring budget of $400,000 Australian dollars...

New Deal was groundbreaking not only because skaters creatively led it, but because Andy Howell’s art and design almost instantly shifted the aesthetics and style of skateboarding from skulls and dragons to graffiti and hip-hop. New Deal was the first company primarily focused on street skating and street culture, and their smart, funny, ads celebrated their role as the “power to the people...

Shepard Fairey "Sub-Standard" Silkscreen Print Street Contemporary Art Dove
By Shepard Fairey
Located in Draper, UT
"This print is a comment on the relationship between corporate greed, fossil fuels, and the warming of the planet and collapsing ecosystems. Standard operating, pushed by players like Standard Oil and its many offshoots, should be redefined as sub-standard. If we want to maintain the standard of health our planet needs to avoid catastrophe, we can't allow big oil to put profits before the planet and profits before people (as well as many other threatened species). Keep in mind that big oil, which is already very profitable, is subsidized by you, the taxpayer, for up to $50 billion per year. In contrast, renewable energy sources are subsidized for only a quarter of that amount. We need to push for change." -Shepard Fairey A portion of proceeds from this print went to Greenpeace USA.
