About the Item

A original hand coloured copperplate engraving from George Smith’s The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide published by Jones & Co, London, 1826. George Smith was upholsterer and furniture draughtsman to his Majesty the Prince of Wales, later King George IV. later framed (last quarter of the 20th Century) in a fine water-gilt frame. The example showcases period trends of the times for a drawing room in the Regency style. With typical pelmet with carved gilt top and tassellled drapes. All plate show signs of ageing, brown spots, fading and marks, the frames have minor wear to the gesso gilt edging. Masures: 33/24/1.5cm.
