About the Item

Pair of very large and impressive colored botanical prints on canvas depicting "Fruit and Stem of the Indian Fig" and "Multiflorous Crown - Imperial Fritillary," after originals by 16th century botanist Basilius Besler. Black painted beveled wood frame with factory distressed silver painted inner edge. These beautiful prints are reproductions of the famous ‘Hortus Eystettensis’ originally done by Basilius Besler in the early 1600s. His work, ‘Hortus Eystettensis’ (Garden of Eichst’tt), is man’s earliest documentation of a specific garden and over 1,000 varieties of flowers were depicted in 367 exquisitely engraved and colored plates.
