About the Item
Antique print titled 'Provincie Noord Holland - Eiland Marken.' This plate (pl. XXX) shows the 19th century costume of the province of Noord-Holland, the Netherlands. This original antique print was published in 1857 by Frans Buffa & Zonen Amsterdam as part of the publication 'Nederlandsche Kleederdrachten naar de natuur' (Dutch folk costume, illustrated using real-life models) by Valentyn Bing.
Artists and Engravers: The plate was drawn by Jan Braet von Uberfeldt, the lithograph printed by R. de Vries. Jan Braet von Uberfeldt (1807-1894) was a Dutch painting master, artist and lithograph. Piet Mondriaan was a student of Braet von Uberfeldt.
Condition: Fair, given age. Light foxing, mainly in the margins. Edges with a few small tears; repaired. Margins cropped. Damp stained, very faintly visible. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study image carefully.
