About the Item
Arab Ceramic Vase Print – Antique Islamic Pottery Lithograph by Delange, 1869
This exquisite antique lithograph, titled Vase Arabe, features a highly stylized Arab ceramic vessel with elongated vertical handles and intricate geometric decoration. Executed in a rich color palette with careful attention to shading and pattern, the print offers a superb example of 19th-century chromolithographic technique. It was published in Paris in 1869 as part of Henri Delange’s celebrated work Recueil de Faïences Italiennes des XVe, XVIe et XVIIe Siècles.
Although the catalogue primarily focused on Italian tin-glazed earthenware, this plate highlights the period’s fascination with Islamic and Oriental ceramics. The vase’s symmetrical form, precise surface patterning, and refined glazing suggest inspiration from Middle Eastern traditions, likely reflecting the influence of Moorish, Mamluk, or Persian design motifs.
Delange, a noted French art publisher, sought to document the finest examples of faience and historic ceramics in large, high-quality color lithographs. This particular plate is distinguished by its clean lines, balanced composition, and scholarly elegance, making it a valuable piece for collectors of ceramic history, Islamic art, or 19th-century decorative arts documentation.
