About the Item

Fine Florentine shelf dating from the mid-19th century, entirely hand-carved in solid wood and finely gilded with gold leaf. The work features very rich sculptural work, with phytomorphic and rocaille motifs of Baroque taste, inherited from the late 18th-century tradition, which were still highly valued in Florentine workshops in the 19th century. The composition features cartouche curls that chase and wrap around themselves with great skill, creating an elegant plastic effect and a refined play of undercuts. The upper top is shaped with a wavy profile, while the lower part is embellished with leaf volutes that add momentum to the structure. Decorative yet functional work designed to be hung on the wall, ideal for enhancing small bronzes, porcelain or period busts.
