Four Decorative Porcelain Wall Brackets of Satyr Form

About the Item

These wall brackets have been beautifully modelled and painted by hand. They take the form of satyrs, who were woodland gods in ancient Greek and Roman mythology. They are traditionally depicted with the upper body of a man and lower body of a horse or goat. The satyrs that decorate the wall brackets have entwined grey furry legs, nude male torsos, and grey bearded faces, with mischievous grinning expressions. They have their arms raised, holding colorful fruit swags. The satyrs are set against light blue and pink backdrops, composed of scrolled acanthus leaves. The tops of the brackets feature painted fluting, and they are edged with gilt bands. In their pastel color palette, and in their delicate, light-hearted classically-inspired ornament, these wall brackets may be described as Rococo in their style. The wall brackets will make wonderful, colorful additions to a well-designed interior. They can be used to display fine works of decorative art, sculpture or plants, or they could be left unadorned and enjoyed as autonomous aesthetic works.

Ottoman Mother-of-Pearl and Ebony Inlaid Wall Bracket Syrian, 19th Century Height 103cm, width 39cm, depth 21cm Inlaid with mother-of-pearl and ebony in intricate geometric and foliate parquetry patterns, this beautiful piece was made in Syria in the nineteenth century during the time of the Ottoman Empire. The upper section, like the lower part, features foliate rather than geometric designs, and the surmount with a crescent finial features a large central roundel enclosing a mother-of-pearl inlaid tughra. All in all, the ebony and mother of pearl dance beautifully throughout various patterns and motifs, creating a fine decorative piece, and an excellent antique ware...
