About the Item

Pair of Late 19th Century Italian Carved Giltwood Neoclassical Wall Brackets, Grand Tour Influences A finely carved and gilded pair of Italian neoclassical wall brackets, dating to the late 19th century and likely produced during the Grand Tour period. Each wall shelf is symmetrically designed with a central fluted column support flanked by stylized acanthus scrolls—evocative of classical Corinthian architecture. The gently curved demi-lune tops are ideal for displaying small sculptures, urns, or other decorative objects. Hand-carved from wood and finished in a warm gilt surface with desirable patina and areas of wear consistent with age, the brackets reflect the opulence and historicism of 19th-century Italian craftsmanship. The reverse of both retains their original paper inventory label reading "Made in Italy" and bearing the hand-numbered inscription 7257, likely referencing a catalog or inventory system associated with a Grand Tour merchant or export firm. These shelves measure 9 inches high x 9 inches wide x 6 inches deep. They are ready to hang and present beautifully as functional architectural accents, perfect for adding architectural design to any interior. Origin: Italy Date: Circa 1880–1900 Materials: Hand-carved giltwood Condition: Wear and gilding loss as expected for age; structurally sound and visually striking Provenance: Estate acquisition, with original labels
