An elegant wood wall-mounted giltwood display bracket shelf under mounted with a carved cherub holding a cornucopia that transforms into a shelf. Circa 17th or 18th Century from Italy. The piece is hand carved and accented with a silver gilded puto and cornucopia. Green hand painted background behind the figure. The base of the piece has some gold gilt on the front. Side profile of the figure shown supporting a cornucopia that transforms into a scalloped shelf. Special attention paid to the anatomical detail and contrapposto of the figure. In good condition. Gentle wear consistent with age and use. Minor wear on wood on the back with a couple areas of chipped wood on the top and bottom. The front foot of the cherub has a chip on the finish of the leg. Minor wear on finish under the front arm of the cherub figure. This beautiful bracket/console would make a wonderful statement in a front entry or living room in a home, as well as creating interest in a smaller space.
