About the Item

Hildreth Meière, an influential American muralist and mosaic artist, left an indelible mark on the art world through her captivating works. One of her remarkable creations is the Radio and Television Encompassing the Earth sculpture originally located in the New York City concourse in Midtown. Meière's sculpture stands as a stunning testament to her mastery of materials and form. The artwork depicts the progression of radio and television communication, showcasing intricate details and dynamic composition. Meière skillfully merges elements of Art Deco and Modernism, resulting in a visually striking piece that seamlessly blends aesthetics with functionality. The sculpture's grandeur and thematic significance made it an iconic symbol of technological progress and artistic excellence, offering a timeless visual experience for all who encountered it in the bustling heart of New York City.. The original was displayed on the 49th Street façade of the R-K-O Roxy which was demolished in 1955. Gary Sussman, renowned American sculptor, received the commission to sculpt this recreation. In 1988 this was finished and installed in the Midtown New York City concourse where it resided before removal. Please note, this item is located in one of our NYC locations.
