About the Item

No doubt commissioned to recognize excellence in some area of American industry in the 1930s or 40s, this highly rare bronze rondel depicts a pair of archers in Classical clothing -- one bearded older man, and one younger -- with a scene of factories and an industrial press behind them. The one other example of this rondel we've seen before was finished with an overall brassy patina, but this example exhibits two patinas -- a deep, chocolate brown for most of the surface, contrasting with a ruddy, coppery color for the two faces. The sculptor was F. K. Hejda, though nothing is known about his work or career.
