Carved Fruitwood Plaque of Virgin and Child Madonna, after Donatello Sculpture . A Large Beautiful 18th/19th Century Carved Relief Fruitwood partially gilt of “ MADONNA AND CHILD” , Italian. Important Craftsmanship with the Finely carved in high relief from ONE panel with the feel of depth through the three-dimensional Carving.
The infant Christ contemplating the scriptures while held in the lap of his mom’s lap, Holding him with her Arm, showing the care devotion and love. Depicted together in a gilded arched reserve carved with garlands of holly. The upper corners carved with cherubs Angels and the borders carved with a pattern of half flower head forms. It’s a Magnificent piece.
At the bottom inner section Carving of “Opus Donatello” This piece was made after the great Donato Di Niccolo Bardi known as Donatello, born in Florence Italy, the greatest influential artist and sculpture then Famous for his larger-than-life figures, He infused emotions to his work, his sculptures denote feelings of suffering, joy, sorrow and happiness through their face and body position. His most famous work was a bronze statue of David, at Museo Nazionale del Bargello. The first sculpture to stand independently, devoid of any architectural surrounding, the most classical of his works. If anecdotes by Angelo Poliziano in his ‘Detti piacevoli’ or studies of his magnum opus bronze sculpture of David are to be believed, Donatello was a homosexual. His friends were aware he was gay.
