About the Item

A large scale heraldic gilt lion off naive depiction, constructed around a pine carcass with a thick hessian and plaster/gesso skin. The original gilt is beautifully faded, the plaster work had age related wear and cracking, the odd elderly repair as you would expect. The piece is solid and sturdy what remains isn't loose flaky. No doubt this would off been part of a very large interior armorial in a well to do building. European in origin, 18th century in age. The piece will sit on a surface of its own accord, and can be wall-mounted with three large hanging hoops of the reverse Measures: Max width 130cm Max height 87cm 28cm in depth.
