Italian 18th Century Marble Medallion

About the Item

An 18th century Italian marble medallion portrait of a Greek/Roman dignitary wearing a head dress or hair net. The depicted head dress is quite unusual. This hand carved "original condition" Carrara marble medallion is dating from the 18th century or possibly earlier. Marked by centuries of handling and patina built up over time. It has a lot of charm and sleeping gem feeling. A section of the back marble plate is missing which has been replaced with a 20th century plaster piece. See photos. This later plaster addition can easily be removed or better fixated (now a little loose) and integrated with the color of the sculpture. A small piece from the lower part of the ear is missing and there are some overall chips.
