Italian Mid Century Modern Wall Mounted Wooden Sculpture, Geometric Accent Piece
About the Item
Music historian, art critic and collector, and one of the most eminent men of culture in his days: Luigi Magnani Rocca has been a key feature in Italian modern history, and amassed an impressive art collection that later found its way to several museums around the world. He authored books on Beethoven and a biography of painter Giorgio Morandi, and created the Magnani Rocca foundation that still exists today.
From time to time, he tried his hand as an artist himself, producing mostly abstract sculptures such as the present piece. Built from several layers of wood, with a rounded central hole and a deconstructed Egg, the piece is imposing in size and when hang instantly turns into the focal point of the room.
A similar piece has appeared at an exhibition held at the Magnani Rocca foundation, but it was finished in white, while the present one is bare wood.
Conditions are good, but some signs of the time, including minor staining and some scratches, are visible throughout. The artist's signature, pictured, is hand-engraved on the back of the piece.
