About the Item

A wonderful and unusual Art work made of Wood, Books and found objects, Signed lower right corner "De la Verriere 85. It is an art work. A sculpture that hangs on the wall. The last photo in the listing was taken at the home of the late Artist. The presence of this piece is incredible and the unusual aspect of having actual books makes this an amazing piece of art. Jean Jacques de la Verriere was a French Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1933. He was in the New York art scene along with his artist friends Bernar Venet, Arman and Claude Gillie. About The Artist: Jean Jacques De La Verriere, nickname J.J., born 1932 in Paris to a mother of Persian Jewish descent. She went to Paris to study architecture, but soon after met JJ’s father, her studies were put on hold and she became a full time mom. Not much is known of JJ’s father. When JJ was 9 years old, Hitler invaded Paris and that put an end to his mom’s dreams. Shortly thereafter the French jews were arrested, except those that were fortunate enough to go into hiding. JJ’s mom retreated to the countryside where her parents lived. She changed her identity and lived out her days in Paris. She died a few years ago and was laid to rest . Her tombstone was inscribed in Hebrew with her real name. JJ has a masters (MFA) from Prat and studied at Hunter for the past 25 years. He was a goldsmith for 50 years, a musician and a photographer. He made a living working with photography, jewelry, sculpture and antique restoration.
