Large late 19th-century plaster relief titled "Dagen" from the Thorvaldsen Museum.
Diameter: 81 cm. Bronze plaque on the reverse.
In good condition, though the paint is partially flaked; it can potentially be fully removed if desired.
"Dagen" (Day) is one of Bertel Thorvaldsen's most iconic works and is part of a series of reliefs depicting Day and Night. Thorvaldsen, one of Denmark's most significant sculptors, created this work in the early 19th century. The relief "Dagen" features a female figure gracefully floating with a torch in one hand and a wreath of flowers in the other, symbolizing the dawn of a new day and the cycle of life. The woman, often interpreted as Aurora, the goddess of dawn, is surrounded by light and movement, capturing the vitality and energy that day brings
