Large Terracotta Neoclassical Relief Sculpture Titled "Study, Service & Counsel
About the Item
Terracotta relief titled "Study, Service, Counsel." It depicts a series of figures engaged in various activities, separated into three distinct sections by scrolling columns and labeled with the words "Study," "Service," and "Counsel." The relief is carved in a detailed, classical style and encased in a black wood frame.
The first panel titled "STUDY" and "Tree of Life" at top flanked by shields. The relief shows Adam & Eve, a scholar with telescope and a figure with a globe.
The center panel titled "SERVICE" and "Love and Wisdom" around the corona behind the two figures. To the left of the two figures is the biblical verse "and the greatest of these is love" and to the right the biblical proverb "where there is no vision the people perish". The figures with examples of love and caring.
The panel on the right titled "COUNSEL" and the words "and knowledge" at top. The figures students, scholars and teachers.
Dimensions: 56 3/4" L, 3 3/4" D and 18 1/4" H
Condition: Please see detail photos. The panel is distressed and there are numerous cracks, repairs, wear and losses. The frame with wear and scratches to finish. Despite the wear the Panel retains an incredible and meaningful presentation.
