About the Item
Ted Williams' .406 batting average from the 1941 season is considered one of the most remarkable feats in baseball history. In 2001 artist and sculptor Paul Kamish paid tribute to Ted Williams with a limited edition bonded bronze sculpture entitled ".406". Authentic infield dirt from Fenway Park was integrated into the ground surface and a facsimile of Williams' signature was etched into each piece.
Kamish sculpts in an oil-base clay and then casts each sculpture in this limited edition in bonded-bronze. Bonded-bronze is a process in which the surface of the artwork is embellished with powdered bronze and backed with resin. The resultant 3-dimensional framed relief sculpture is then hand-finished with colorful patinas. The final step is framing the work in a high-quality shadow-box frame.
The work offered here is numbered #104/406. Edition # 1/406 was presented to Ted Williams shortly before he died on July 5, 2002, and was showcased in the St. Petersburg, FL Hitters Hall of Fame.
About the Artist:
Kamish's sculptural work is recognizable and hangs in art galleries, private collections, a Presidential Library, and museums today. He has created major works for numerous organizations including, University of Notre Dame, President George H. Bush Library, USMA West Point, World Golf Hall of Fame, University of Southern California, U. S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, Ted Williams Museum, Georgetown University, Minnesota Children's Museum, The Rudy & Kelly Foundations, and the Patty Berg Cancer Center to name a few.
