ABOUT THE ARTIST: Mithé Espelt (1923–2020) was a remarkable French artist and ceramicist known for her delicate, colorful jewelry boxes, mirrors, and decorative pieces made primarily from ceramic materials. Espelt's work stood out because of her innovative use of ceramic glazes, vibrant colors, and intricate designs, which often drew inspiration from nature and abstract forms. Her pieces, made during the mid-20th century, are often described as luxurious yet whimsical, bringing a unique character to ceramic arts. Espelt was somewhat elusive in her professional life; she rarely signed her pieces and preferred to avoid the limelight, focusing more on her craft than on commercial fame. As a result, her work was relatively unknown to the general public for many years, though it has gained recognition and admiration among collectors and enthusiasts for its artistic quality and craftsmanship.
