About the Item

A most decorative and high quality true pair of Italian 19th century Vert de Patricia, Sienna, and Rouge Griotte marble plaques of Roman Emperors. This interesting pair of plaques is depicting Emperor Nero and Emperor Vespasian who ruled in succession to one another. Nero, who ruled from 54 to 68 AD, is often represented with a similar profile in classical art, especially in imperial portraiture. Vespasian, who ruled from 69 to 79 AD, was the founder of the Flavian dynasty. Each plaque is framed within a mottled edge Vert de Patricia marble frame. The Rouge Griotte marble profiles are displayed wearing berried laurel crowns and set on a Sienna marble slab background.
