About the Item

An impressive pair of large scale antique Roman style carved roundels dating from the mid 19th century. Striking in subject and scale, these spectacular roundels will make stylish wall decor in an interior. A handed pair, they will look particularly prominent situated either side of a chimneybreast or together on a large interior wall. A handed pair, each roundel is superbly carved with depictions of Roman armour before weaponry including swords, axes, spears and a quiver of arrows. Enhanced with paint, the armour features traditional red tassels and ribbons, detailed with highlights of gilt, all framed by a reeded gilt cartouche for a final flourish of grandeur.
