About the Item

Sculpture made from Swarovski crystals and a found, car-flattened “Canada Dry” club soda can by Los Angeles-based artist Sam Keller. The backside is signed and features a D-ring anchor for hanging. This piece was featured in Sam Keller's 2023 solo exhibition, “Weird Energy”, at Patrick Parrish Gallery, which exhibited Keller’s double-take-inducing sculptures, paintings, and mixed media pieces. SAM KELLER (b. 1986, New York) is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work explores the aesthetic and functional limits of discarded consumer goods. Whether transfiguring crushed beverage cans into opulent, Swarovski-studded works of art or elevating Cheetos Puffs into geometric sculptures, Keller’s work playfully transforms familiar, mass-produced products into unique art objects. The core of each piece Keller creates is built almost exclusively around found, acquired, or appropriated commercial materials, ranging from reclaimed wheatpaste billboards to abandoned public auction advertisements. By appropriating elements of commercial branding and positioning consumerism in an art context, Keller’s work functions as a sort of fun-house mirror to American capitalist culture: reflecting, yet also distorting. Raised in Brooklyn, NY, Keller currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. He received a BFA in Painting from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2009 and an MFA in Sculpture from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2020. Keller’s work has been featured in publications such as Vogue’s August 2024 print issue. His work has been showcased in solo exhibitions at Louis Buhl & Co. in Detroit, MI (2021), Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago, IL (2019), and Ed. Varie, NYC (2018). Group shows featuring his work have been held at Suomei Gallery in Shanghai (2023 - 2024), Patrick Parrish Gallery in NYC (2023), Hashimoto Contemporary in SF and LA (2019, 2021), East Hampton Shed in East Hampton, NY (2021), Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton, NY (2019), My Pet Ram in NYC (2021), and Martha’s Contemporary in Austin, TX (2018, 2020).

Mixed-Media Sculpture Dror Karta
By Dror Karta
Located in Palm Springs, CA
A wonderful mixed-media sculpture by the noted Israeli Artist Dror Karta. This sculpture was in a traveling exhibition and is pictured in the book. The exhibition was about Palestinian and Israeli artists, who were given the same bowl to start. This is the actual piece. It is signed as well. It is a ceramic bowl, four glass leaves and lots of little bottles inside loose. The glass leaves are molded into the ceramic base by some kind of white epoxy. The leaves have been repaired at the base with the epoxy and quite a few of the little bottles have damage. There is a small chip on the underside. A brief Bio of the artist follows from the artist's website follows; Biography 1965 Born in Natanya, Israel 1985 Wounded during military service 1988-1992 Study graphic design in "Hadasa-vizo Canada college of design" Haifa, Israel 1994 Opens studio for painting, sculpturing and designing 1998 Moves to Ein-Hod Artist Village, Israel 2001-2003 Lives and works in Amsterdam, NL Group exhibitions 1998 "Shesh-Besh", Pyramid contemporary art gallery, Haifa, Israel 1998 "60 Horse Power", holiday of holidays art...
