About the Item

Sculpture in the shape of a perfectly flat disc of opaque gray color with relief elements colored in red, white and brown by oxides and salts. Hand made by Giuseppe Lucietti in 1984 Historical-critical information: The sculpture, called Astrolabe, is made of black porcelain fired at 1300° in single-fired with reduction. The color is given by the treatment of oxides and salts. Envision a striking sculpture that takes the form of a perfectly flat disc, rendered in a sophisticated opaque gray. The surface of this disc is smooth and unblemished, creating a sense of calm and balance. What makes this piece truly captivating are the relief elements that emerge from its surface, adding depth and texture. These reliefs are adorned with vibrant colors—rich reds, bright whites, and earthy browns, all achieved through the use of oxides and salts. The interplay of these colors against the gray background creates a stunning visual contrast. The red elements offer a bold pop, while the white highlights provide a sense of light and dimension. The brown tones ground the piece, evoking a connection to natural materials. As light hits the sculpture, the relief elements cast subtle shadows, enhancing their three-dimensional quality and inviting viewers to explore the nuances of the textures and colors, making this disc not just a flat object, but a dynamic piece of art that engages and captivates.
