A silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single colour, usually black, with its edges matching the outline of the subject. The interior of a silhouette is featureless, and the silhouette is usually presented on a light background, usually white, or none at all. The silhouette differs from an outline, which depicts the edge of an object in a linear form, while a silhouette appears as a solid shape. Silhouette images may be created in any visual artistic medium, but were first used to describe pieces of cut paper, which were then stuck to a backing in a contrasting colour, and often framed.
Cutting portraits, generally in profile, from black card became popular in the mid-18th century, though the term silhouette was seldom used until the early decades of the 19th century, and the tradition has continued under this name into the 21st century.
With an experience of over 40 years, Artecornici design creates high-quality handmade frames using precious woods and working various types of high-quality finishes, lacquers and ageing, offering a vast choice of models.
Each print is an artisanal Florentine product, reproducing images of the European 18th and 19th centuries with the same printing techniques (engraving with a star press), the golden age of prints, which are then finished and watercolored exclusively by hand
The richness of our work lies in the ability to make our customers' requests our own, creating products with personalized, unique, and precious creations, renewing our collections year after year.

Black Tulips and Vase, Feb 26, 2014, belong to Sultan’s famous Flower series. The artist is credited for the revival of the still life tradition where the image is deconstructed to the basic elements, thus Sultan’s work remains both abstract and representational.
"The images... are really about the architecture in the paintings; they seem so massive and strong and permanent but nothing is permanent." — Donal Sultan
Black Tulips and Vase, Feb 26, 2014, represents Sultan's still-life, where the shape of the object is reduced to the bare essentials. The image reveals one of the key features of Sultan’s work - the material juxtaposition- the contrast of a weighty background with ethereal shapes of the flowers. The printing technique translates the Sultan’s original paintings’ texture: linoleum, tar, flocking, plaster, tile, wood. This work is a silkscreen with enamel inks and tar-like texture on 4-ply museum board.

Donald Sultan (USA, born 1951) is a distinguished painter, sculptor, and printmaker, who rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the New Yorker “New Image” movement. He has a unique artistic method and innovative approach to traditional subject matter. Known as Abstract Representation, Donald Sultan´s art is characterized by the use of geometric black forms set against organic areas of bright color, thus bringing an abstract sensibility to his iconographic images of still life. Throughout his career he has revisited and reinvented still life, using images of lemons, poppies, playing cards, fruits, flowers, and other objects. Donald Sultan’s Lemons...

BUCHOZ. A Group of Four Tulips
Located in London, GB
A Group of 4 hand-coloured engraved plates of tulips, in matching silver leaf frames. Dimensions: 34.6cm by 48.5cm.
A fine group of these rare flower plates, the complete volume of 40 being part of Le Jardin d'Eden, which was intended as the supplement to the Collection des Fleurs de la Chine & de l'Europe, first published in 1776.
[Paris 1781]
The second half of the eighteenth century saw a boom in natural history publications in France fuelled by such works as Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle. The accession of Louis XVI in 1774 was followed by a relaxation in the regulation of the book trade making it easier for authors to publish their own works. No other writer was to take such copious advantage of these two developments as Pierre-Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807), a French physician, lawyer and naturalist. His works are characterised by the beauty of the illustrations, and their rarity owing to the small size of the print runs.
The final tulip plate...
