Mercia Bees is a smaller scale print in the English Mercia collection, with a 6” half drop repeat. It features the short-haired bumblebee, a species driven to extinction in England, but recently reintroduced into specially planted flower-rich meadows in the region of Dungeness. The bees are foraging on clover, and pheasant’s eye, a rare wildflower introduced to the UK in Roman times. The design has a nostalgic feel while having a crisp contemporary feel.
With exquisite botanical and biological detail, this design is part of the growing passion in interiors for honouring the natural world. Furthermore, for every roll of wallpaper sold, 100m2 of critical wild Habitat is preserved through World Land Trust.
This is an eco-friendly fine gicleé digitally-printed “real” wallpaper. It is printed in the UK on a natural non-woven cellulose-based substrate made from recycled materials - recycled polyester (PET) fibre and recycled wood pulp. The production process is solvent free with minimal waste and energy inputs.

Based in England, Newton Paisley creates exquisitely detailed eco-friendly fabrics and wallpapers, all designed and hand-drawn by award-winning conservation biologist, Dr Susy Paisley. Each design brims with life and tells stories of neglected and endangered species. Even better, the products contributes toward the preservation of critical wild habitat. For every metre of fabric and roll of wallpaper sold, 100m2 of wild habitat is preserved through our collaboration with World Land Trust. For bespoke projects such as boutique hotels, the notable flora and fauna of specific sites are researched, illustrated and transformed into unique wall-coverings and textile designs. Founded in September 2016, Newton Paisley has already won several important awards, such as inclusion as Best in Show at the 2018 ICFF and one of Six Top New Products at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC by Architectural Digest.
The Wallpaper is Non-woven 147gsm Uncoated.
A Coated option which provides deeper colours, a more wipeable surface and a slight shine can be produced on special order.
All Newton Paisley designs are also produced as printed linen, suitable for drapery and upholstery.

This medium scale print celebrates the migratory Monarch butterfly whose larval food-plants, the milkweeds, have been depleted to critically low levels by herbicides. The population of monarchs that spends its summers in the Carolinas, undertakes an incredible multi-generational migration every year to forests in Mexico where they overwinter. Plants like Echinacea provide them with rich sources of nectar for this journey. As well as Echinacea purpurea, the most common of the coneflowers, this design features Echinacea leavigata, an endangered coneflower native to North Carolina.

Puya atra, the flower upon which this design is based, is a Bromeliad. It is an important food source for spectacled bears with extraordinary turquoise flowers, an incredibly rare flower colour. The flowers are pollinated by super-heroic little hummingbirds which can fly at speeds which, relative to body length, are greater than any other vertebrate, with wing-speeds of over 80 beats per second.
This design is part of The Beatrice Edit, a collaboration between biologist/designer Susy Paisley and her daughter Beatrice, who is a budding interior designer. and avowed minimalist. One day, in a conversation about their different tastes, it occurred to them to do an edit of Newton Paisley designs for people who, like Beatrice, think less is more in their interiors. Best-selling Newton Paisley designs were reimagined as one-colour 18th century toile de Jouys; favourite botanical details from other designs were reconfigured in simple airy geometrical repeats. Lucky Bean - Erythrina lysistemon is an African wonder tree that fertilises the soil, helps farmers time their planting with the appearance of the stunning red blossoms in Spring, makes live barbed fencing, provides black and red seeds for jewellery… As well as these uses, every part of the plant provides sustenance: the flowers give nectar to birds and bees, the leaves are eaten by creatures from rhinos to kudu, the flower buds are relished by vervet monkeys, and the bark is consumed by elephants and baboons.
