About the design:
By contrasting barbed wire with the softness of a silk ribbon, Gjoen creates a juxtaposition of two intertwining elements. Love versus hate, good versus evil.
The story of beauty and pain shows us the infinite entanglement of the two elements. The two create a new alliance of hope as well as uncertainty.
Printed on fine Art: drawing paper effect (matte, not embossed). It is an eco-friendly support made out of cellulose that keeps a very high qualitative perception. Retro NWB.

Puya atra, the flower upon which this design is based, is a Bromeliad. It is an important food source for spectacled bears with extraordinary turquoise flowers, an incredibly rare flower colour. The flowers are pollinated by super-heroic little hummingbirds which can fly at speeds which, relative to body length, are greater than any other vertebrate, with wing-speeds of over 80 beats per second.
This design is part of The Beatrice Edit, a collaboration between biologist/designer Susy Paisley and her daughter Beatrice, who is a budding interior designer. and avowed minimalist. One day, in a conversation about their different tastes, it occurred to them to do an edit of Newton Paisley designs for people who, like Beatrice, think less is more in their interiors. Best-selling Newton Paisley designs were reimagined as one-colour 18th century toile de Jouys; favourite botanical details from other designs were reconfigured in simple airy geometrical repeats. Venus flower - Dionaea muscipula Venus fly traps are found in bogs which are low in the nutrients vital to plants like nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. These ingenious plants solve this problem by preying on beetles and spiders. (Flies are actually rarely consumed.) Their traps snap shut in less than 0.1 seconds. This most famous of all carnivorous plants described by Charles Darwin as “one of the most wonderful in the world” is native to the Carolinas in a small area around Wilmington. The blooms are rare, delicate and beautiful.
