Shifting Sands

If summer had a sound, it might be waves crashing or crickets chirping; if it had a taste, maybe juicy strawberries or dry rosé. And a texture? Sand, in all its many forms: silky smooth beneath a towel, gritty on wet skin, scorching beneath the feet, comprising the smallest speck or an insurmountable dune. Here, we’ve compiled fine art, furniture and objects inspired by sandy locales of all sorts, encompassing deserts both real (from India to the American Southwest) and cinematic (the post-apocalyptic landscape of the new Mad Max) and, naturally, the beach.
