About the Item
This bracelet was originally strung with strands of 8mm Akoya pearls. It was pretty, but sort of boring and the pearls had a strong yellowish overtone we didn't much like.
Rather than restringing with higher quality Akoyas, we decided to go for something more risky and less expected: baroque Tahitians.
We chose 24 pearls with an idea of mixing shapes and colors but always terminating with small, roundish pearls while placing the goofier shapes in the middle. The larger pearls are all in white and silver shades that are very special and rare for Tahitians. All pearls are undyed and were purchased from our trusted dealer, Seven Seas Pearls, based in Los Angeles with offices in Germany and Japan. Seven Seas deals only in saltwater cultured pearls -- nothing freshwater and nothing from China.
The centerpiece -- resembling a "frog" button closure like you would see in gold braid on a fancy old-fashioned military uniform -- is hinged in the middle so that it hangs gracefully over the wrist. It's 1-3/4" long and 1/2" wide on the ends.
The sturdy matching clasp is a box-type closure but with the added safety of a hinged press-in catch underneath. This catch means the bracelet can't be a snug fit since you need a little bit of maneuvering room to reach underneath and secure the latch.
Size: This bracelet is 7.5" long but the interior circumference is 6.5" and the bracelet is best-suited for a wrist 6.25" or less. If you need a larger size, it's simply a matter of adding a few pearls and restringing; just let us know and we'll figure out an adjusted price for you.
Pearls: The 24 pearls range in diameter from around 7mm to 9mm.
Marks: The clasp is stamped "18K," but there is no maker's mark.
Age: The pearls and stringing are new. The original bracelet was probably made in the 1990s or aughts.
