About the Item

Circa the 1880’s, this 14k gold bracelet intertwines two popular Victorian love symbols—the buckle and ivy—in an exquisite design that expresses sentiment and everlasting love. The piece has beautiful, tight enamel work; the scrolling cobalt blue ivy is interlaced with black leaves that create a nice, subtle contrast. Behind the enamel work is a stippled texture, done by hand, with clean, crisp sections of a smooth surface that outline the top and bottom. The centerpiece of the bracelet is a detailed buckle, a Victorian motif that represents transcendent love.  The bracelet has beautiful construction and three-dimensionality. The buckle is intricately made and grommeted onto the piece. The back of the bracelet is plain, with no dents, despite its age. The bracelet closes with a secure hidden clasp, built seamlessly into the piece.  Ivy was often seen in Victorian jewelry to represent love, fidelity, and devotion. As ivy is known to intertwine as it grows, it is the perfect symbol of two lives intertwining, and was often used as a symbol of marriage. Buckles were also a popular Victorian motif, made into bracelets and rings to create an eternal loop, and to represent loyalty and a love that endures even into the afterlife.  The bracelet weighs 17.25 grams. It is 1/2” wide and fits up to a 6.25” wrist. Unmarked, but acid tests as 14k gold. The piece is in excellent condition, with a tiny area of enamel loss where the final ivy leaf meets the edge of the bracelet. A beautiful, romantic piece, sure to capture anyone’s heart.

Victorian 14K Gold Cannetille Etruscan Revival Bracelet
Located in Venice, CA
A beautiful 14k yellow gold bracelet from the Etruscan Revival period, circa 1880. The bracelet is exquisitely hand-made and is a fine example of cannetille gold work, which is similar to filigree work with fine gold wires that curl around thinly hammered sheets. Cannetille gold work was inspired by embroidery and nature. The repeating curling designs on each segment of the bracelet are harmonious and elegant. The diamond shape of the segment has an oval decoration, framed with gold wirework, and inside this, there is a symmetrical curling design. Each segment measures one inch and the bracelet, made up of six segments, is approximately seven inches. Each segment is hollow, and connected through thick gold links decorated with gold beads. The bracelet feels great when worn, and has a safety chain so that it doesn't fall off. The bracelet weighs a total of 18 grams and is in perfect condition. This bracelet displays the aesthetic tastes of an era of nostalgia and romance. Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wirework and granulation, colored gemstones and glass. The news of the excavation of these tombs, and the treasures contained inside them, spread throughout Europe. Etruscan style jewelry...

18K Gold Early Victorian Diamond Trilogy Ring with Blue Enamel Details
Located in Venice, CA
This 18k gold early Victorian ring features three Old Mind Cut diamonds encased in blue enamel square details. The diamonds are housed in a square, carved out setting in the 18k gold that creates a gorgeous contrast against the navy blue. The center square is larger, with a punched out format that raises it a layer above the rest of the ring. The deep blue enamel creates a ribbonlike detail on each end of the design. The diamonds are bead set, which enhances their sparkle and gives the visual illusion that they are square-shaped. At a larger size of 10.5, this makes a great unisex ring, ideal for a man or a woman’s middle finger. The ring contains approximately 1/3 of a carat of natural antique diamonds. The center diamond is 3.5 mm, and two side diamonds are 2.5 mm. All three diamonds are Old Mine Cut with chunky shape and large culets. The diamonds are bright and lively, H-I in color, SL2 in clarity. The ring is marked with 18CT and the maker’s mark of “G.TS”. The center square is 3/8” wide and the band tapers down to 3/16” on the bottom. The ring weighs 6.3 grams. Ring size 10.5; due to the enamel, we do not recommend resizing. This could make a beautiful wedding band but is also perfect for anyone who wants a treasured piece of the past. We currently have a women’s ring in our collection that makes a beautiful counterpart to this ring and could make a matching pair of wedding rings.
