Bisbee Turquoise Cuff by Ron Bedoni

About the Item

Heavy gauge sterling silver and turquoise cuff by Navajo silversmith Ron Bedoni. The 5-3/8” signature sterling silver filed and stamped cuff has an exquisite ½” x 5-3/8” Bisbee turquoise cabochon. The inside measurement is 5 ¼” with a 1 1/8” gap. The Bisbee mine, located near Bisbee, Arizona is one of the most famous mines in America. Bisbee Turquoise is known for its hard, beautiful blue stone that has unique matrix. The matrix is sometimes dark brown or a red/brown spiderweb. Mining Bisbee turquoise slowed down and completely ended by 1980. Ron Bedonie began working with silver when he was 20 years old, having learned the art of silversmithing techniques from his parents, Lutricia Yellowhair and John Bedonie Sr. Initially, he learned soldering techniques, then went on to learn stamping from his cousin, Thomas Jim. Ron makes his own stamps and chisels based on his sketches, and sometimes uses old car parts to create his tools. “I pressured myself into getting finely chiseled lines because it was more of a challenge," Bedonie says of his work. #J2035 @ S

Sterling Silver Handmade Vintage Bisbee Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace
Located in Scottsdale, AZ
An astonishing seventeen perfectly matched natural Bisbee turquoise cabochons were used to create this super rare squash blossom necklace. Today, due to the scarcity of the turquoise the necklace would not be able to be made. Each of the large specimens is the signature look of the lavender pit of the mine, deep Bisbee blue with reddish brown and purple matrix. The quality of the silver work is a great testament to the rarity and beauty of the stone. It is strung with beautiful handmade silver beads and is very wearable. Bisbee mine turquoise was one of the first to appear for sale on the modern American market, which is at least partly responsible for its fame. The turquoise mine was a secondary operation to the Bisbee copper mine, operated by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. The vast majority of Bisbee turquoise surfaced when the Phelps Dodge started their open pit...
